I don’t know which CRAZE is more popular right now Rose or Prosecco. It took 25 years for Americans to finally believe what us in the Wine Industry have been telling them that Rose is not Sweet White Zinfandel but a Dry, Lighter form of Red Wine. Now that Prosecco is every other guest’s wish that I see on a daily basis it will take me 25 more years to explain to them that Prosecco is not made in Champagne lol.
Prosecco A Grape or A Region Or A Country?
Prosecco was the name of the GRAPE being used for the technical name of the Grape by Viticultural Standards GLERA. It always was GLERA but they called it Prosecco. Now we are back to GLERA but the Label says Prosecco made with GLERA Grapes. Reason is : 2009 the Original Region of Northern Italy that Prosecco comes from Conegliano Valdobbiadene ( Coh- Kneel-Eee- Ahno Val-Dough- Bee–Ahh-Duh-Nay) …(Say that 20 Times fast) got designated as a D.O.C.G. Prosecco Superiore and they wanted to differentiate the Proseccos that just come from the D.O.C of the Veneto. So only Proseccos from the the D.O.C.G are Superiore and to me there is a big difference in quality.
Collalto Prosecco Superiore Extra Dry
Of course with the Craze going on now, everyone with even an Italian Last Name is pushing out a new label of Prosecco every week. Restaurants are buying and listing the one or two popular brand names that are more mass produced. I myself notice there are three major brands of generic Proseccos on every form of Restaurant’s Wine List whether it be, Chinese, Pizza, Mexican, Vietnamese, Steakhouse, Italian and same thing on the Big Box Club Stores. Collalto is in a league all of it’s own. First of all it is a D.O.C.G. Prosecco Superiore as you can see on the label and comes from Conegliano Valdobbiadene. Secondly they use only Estate Grown 100% Glera Grapes. The Juice sits 3 months on the Lees (Dead Yeast Cells) which gives it that creamy mouth feel. Straw-yellow. Intense nose showing aromas of white flowers and almonds. Fleshy,Round with intense lip smacking flavors of Granny Smith Apples, Bartlett Pears, Citrus and such a delightful finish with a hint of nuttiness on the back end. Who is this Collalto person anyway?? Oh did I mention she was a real life PRINCESS?????
Meet Princess Isabella Collalto
Isabella Collalto de Croÿ is the eldest daughter of Prince Manfredo di Collalto and of Princess Maria de la Trinidad di Collalto, Castillo y Moreno. After obtaining her university degree at the University of Trieste, Isabella Collalto worked for over 20 years for European Union agencies based in Brussels, specializing in international relations.
She married Belgian Prince Guillaume de Croÿ, and has a son, Emmanuel, and a daughter, Violette. Her father passed away prematurely in 2004, and Isabella Collalto followed his wishes by assuming the management of the family’s historic agricultural estate and of the winery in Susegana.
This is not a fairytale. That is the home or CASTLE of Princess Isabella and YES… you can stay there too. They have a Bed and Breakfast and I am sure plenty of Collalto Prosecco Superiore to drink. They do make their Prosecco in a BRUT style as well which is delicious (more dry) the EXTRA DRY is slightly LESS DRY.
Just like with any Craze, once a wine becomes popular everyone jumps on the bandwagon and the quality varies tremendously. If you like Prosecco you might as well drink one that is a Prosecco Superiore.
Some Italian Women Recognize Woody Allen As Genius
In the State Of Florida, Collalto Wines are imported and distributed by Alberello Imports and another fantastic Selection of Nadia Galati. Nadia’s Wines are amazing. They are exclusively Sold in Florida at ABC Fine Wine and Spirits. Nadia Is From Milan. I am from Brooklyn New York. Nadia doesn’t understand why women find Woody Allen or Howard Stern Attractive. I told her because they are creative and intellectual…. She Said YUCCCCCK to Both. Apparently the Princess Isabella doesn’t feel the same way as she features one of Woody Allen’s Famous Quotes on her Website for the Winery
